Assessment of the marine and coastal environment post Volcanic Eruption

FISHERIES DIVISION (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour)-

St. Vincent and the Grenadines are well known for their rich biodiversity and natural beauty. However, natural shocks like Volcanic eruptions can damage and cause changes that can alter the natural coastal environment.

Coastal erosions from the pyroclastic density currents and Lahar flows are real threats, and to determine the extent of such changes, the Fisheries Division will conduct Post-Volcanic assessments of the coast from Barrouallie to Richmond on the west of mainland Saint Vincent and from Bridgetown to Fancy on the eastern coast. The Division would collaborate with Richmond Vale Academy, Serenity Dive Inc. and fishers to conduct nearshore marine assessments to document the effects of the volcanic eruption on the underwater environment.
