Project Summary

Borne out of a period of environmental devastation caused by the 2021 Volcanic eruption and the pressing issue of food insecurity in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a group of volunteers founded what is now known as Eco Home Gardens Inc. The overarching goal of Eco Garden is to actively involve more women in sustainable agriculture and business development while fostering a legacy of environmental preservation. Thus, the project aims to:

  • To develop a safe hiking trail, provide access to farmers, and re-establish the trail link between Chateaubelair and Rose Hall via Palmyara route.
  • To use the trail for environmental education by using signage and Tours with Schools and other groups during and after work is being done.
  • To heighten awareness of the biodiversity conservation of the area with particular emphasis on bird watching.

RESULTS TO BE ACHIEVED

  • Greater recognition and admiration of local ecosystems and biodiversity among the public.
  • Heightened environmental knowledge among trail visitors, with a particular emphasis on students.
  • Active involvement and enthusiastic participation from the community in conservation initiatives.
  • Enhanced trail durability through responsible stewardship and rehabilitation practices.
  • An exemplary project that illustrates the harmonious relationship between eco-tourism, conservation, and education.
  • By implementing an inclusive strategy that interlaces trail revitalisation and environmental education, this project strives to create a lasting influence on both the natural surroundings and the community's ecological awareness.
